|Description:||GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: |
The Family Services Specialist, under the direction of the Residential Program Manager, provides a comprehensive array of services to juveniles and their families while the juvenile resides in the Multipurpose Juvenile Home and maintains an active caseload of juveniles and families after the juveniles leave the Home. Goals of the services provided by the Family Services Specialist include actively engaging families to become involved with the care and treatment of their child, family reunification, and the successful adjustment of the juvenile in the family and the community upon discharge from the program.
1. Work closely with all Home staff and takes the primary role in intake and assessment of each youth admitted to the Home. Primary role in the development of an individualized Service Plan for each youth that includes specific strategies for service provision to the family of the juvenile while in residence.
2. Make contact with the juvenile’s family as soon as possible after the juvenile is placed in the Multipurpose Juvenile Home.
3. Keep families apprised of the progress and issues regarding the juveniles while in residence and help the family to understand how they can become an active, positive part of the juvenile’s treatment.
4. Formally assess each parent’s abilities and needs and provides structured parenting skills training for families in the family’s home and at the Home.
5. Make frequent announced and unannounced visits to the family’s home during evening and weekend hours, depending upon the parent (s) work schedule.
6. Make frequent telephone contacts with families.
7. Regularly seek consultation from appropriate supervisory staff, provide detailed information regarding significant issues affecting youth in care, and accept and implement feedback.
8. Establish contacts with community services and provides referral of families to other community resources for additional or complementary services. Assist families in making applications for services.
9. Administer formal assessments of youths and parents as scheduled and sends the assessments to the Methodist Home for Children administrative office as instructed.
10. Provide information and recommendations to juvenile court personnel as indicated and in conjunction with the Residential Program Manager.
11. Work closely with the Outcome Data Management Specialist to develop and maintain detailed case records in a systematic fashion. Ensures complete, accurate, and timely documentation of all treatment provided to the youth while in residency.
12. Send case files for quality assurance reviews and collects and reports additional information about the youth and/or family in a timely manner as requested by the Quality Improvement Coordinator and the Outcome Data Management Specialist.
13. Provide structured home-based treatment continuation services to juveniles and their families after the juvenile leaves the Multipurpose Juvenile Home. Make contacts with the youth’s school, court counselor, and other community representatives to assist the youth in successful reintegration.
14. Receive training in all aspects of the operation of the Multipurpose Juvenile Home and provides direct care coverage (including overnights and weekends) when requested in cases of position vacancies or emergencies.
15. Work a flexible work schedule each month and other periods of coverage of the home as scheduled and on an as-needed or emergency basis.
16. Perform other duties as requested by the Residential Program Manager.
|Qualifications:||Knowledge: A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. |
Experience: Minimum of two (2) years experience working with families; two (2) years experience working with the target population is strongly preferred.
• Must maintain a valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record.
• Must be insurable by Methodist Home for Children’s insurance carrier.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule and shifts including overnights, weekends, holidays, and extended periods of time.
• Must successfully complete all phases of pre-service and on-going training, including, but not limited to, physical restraint training, First Aid, CPR, Universal Precautions, and medication administration.
• Must be able to work in high pressure, high stress environment.
• Position may experience verbal and/or physical aggression from client population.
• Possible exposure to infectious diseases.
• Must provide a negative drug screen result prior to employment.
• Must pass a post-employment physical and TB test and on-going physical assessments as required.
• Have the ability to perform physical demands associated with daily operational functions, property management, and client interactions, such as standing, bending, lifting, participation in physical activities, facility cleaning (interior and exterior) and maintenance, cooking, shopping, supplies inventory, and other rotating assignments.
• Have the ability to comprehend and produce accurate program documentation, including, but not limited to, client treatment plans, progress summaries, manage financial/budget tasks, and community correspondence.
• Have the ability to communicate professionally with consumers, including, but not limited to, parents, colleagues, and community service providers.
• Have the ability to provide on-going visual and physical proximity supervision of clients.
• Have the ability to participate in recreational activities with clients, including, but not limited to, arts, athletics, and outdoor activities.
• Have the ability to drive a 12-passenger van to transport clients.
• Have the ability to drive for agency related events during the day or night.
• Regular attendance at primary worksite and agency related events.
